I Feel Like Dorothy...

We're going home this weekend. I mean, home to Uvalde. I feel like Dorothy because I can't stop thinking, "there's no place like home", "there's no place like home." The other day I wore dress boots to school and I kept clicking my heels together. I open my eyes and yep...I'm still at school. I'm homesick. I haven't been this homesick since my freshman year at A&M. The last time we were home was this summer, July. The next time we were planning on going to my parents' was Christmas. That's a long time between visits, especially for me. Last week, during a particularly emotional time, I cried to Richard, "I just want to go home, where people are normal." It was silly, but I kind of meant it. I just want to be around people who know me and love me, regardless; who assume the best even when I act my worst. I want to be around people who know the REAL me and have known the real me for a long time. So, a few days later, the husband God so graciously gave to ME, asks,

-"What are we doing next weekend?"
-My sullen answer: "Nothing."
-"Why don't we go to Uvalde?"
-"Really?"

I call home soon after and the plans are made. We're going to hunt dove and let Dad cook for us (the only bummer is Mom will be in Galveston with school stuff), and maybe even try out Dad's new kayak on the river. I'm so ready. We could do nothing but stay in bed and I would be fine because I would be sleeping at home.

"Just click your heels together three times and repeat these words, 'there's no place like home.'"

May you all have a place you cherish fondly and can call "home," even if it only exists in your heart.

  1. Be safe as you travel. We solved problems in math class involving you and Amy yesterday. All the kiddos wanted to know who Mrs. Jenkins and at that time Ms. Macgregor were. So if your ears have been burning, it was me. Sharing how Long misses two such awesome teachers.

  3. I totally understand. That is one of the main reason that my husband knows that we are stuck in the Texas Panhandle. He doesn't quite understand fully. I just need to know. I have always been close not only to my immediate family but my extended family. I was blessed, even though sometimes it didn't seem like that, to grow up with aunts, uncles, cousin, second cousins, grandparents, and great-grandparents all in the same SMALL little town. Now, alot of them are still there. I really just miss getting to wake up with everyone to have breakfast waiting for us on the table and my brothers and all of us there. My kids love getting to go to Groom since they get to play on all the "FARM" toys. Even though, I don't think we will ever move back, it is so...so....nice to go home. REGULARLY. Now you are making me homesick...haha...I guess I will just have to call. I know that my mom gets tired of me calling everyday if not once but MANY....
Have a great trip...and come back here because I need you...haha

  7. There truly is no place like home! I understand....we aren't going home for Thanksgiving this year and it makes me homesick already.

BTW-the software I used to make those pictures black and white with a touch of color was called AKVIS. I downloaded it for a free trial for 10 days and played with those pictures to make them that way. Pretty simple if I can do it!
