Hysterosalpingogram....huh?

As if the rest of our adventure wasn't exhausting enough, we turned around and headed to Lubbock AGAIN today for another appointment. This time we headed to Covenant Imaging Center for an HSG (hysterosalpingogram). Basically, a catheter is inserted into your cervical opening and an iodine-based dye is shot into the fallopian tubes to make sure things are clear and there are no blockages. I had heard two sides to the pain level...1.) not that bad 2.) painful. I must say, it was very painful for me. Not comfortable at all. I took 800 mg of Ibuprofen beforehand, as directed. I can't imagine what it would have been like if I hadn't. The radiologist had a hard time getting the catheter in so he had to use some tongs. I won't go into detail, but it didn't feel good. After he was finished, I felt so much better in seriously less than 10 minutes. BUT, even though it was painful it was SO AMAZING to see the dye traveling through my fallopian tubes on the screen and then DUMPING out into my abdominal cavity. I knew what to look for and that was a GREAT sign! So, no problems with the tubes...things are clear! The radiologist said to me, "You know the chances of pregnancy after an HSG are greatly increased, so don't ruin our record." I told him I would be sure to keep that in mind. LOL! I don't wish the procedure on anyone, but I do wish everyone could see one happen!!

  3. Yeah, my HSG experience was not as bad as I had heard it could be, but the catheter part was quite painful. Come to find out, my anatomy is all out of whack due to the endometriosis. Go figure. I was not advised to take ibuprofen, but that sounds like a good idea....I am praying that you see your prayers answered in the next couple of months!
