Just a Worm

I know, I know. I go weeks without posting (who ME, said "blog queen"?) and then when I start again, I have two posts in ONE day? Yep. And it may turn into three by the time the day is through. I'm on a roll, people. Work with me.

Post #2:

Deep down inside, I'm just a worm. This stresses me out because there are so many books I want to read and I just don't have time. I mean, if I didn't want to spend time with my husband, my dogs, my friends, my family; if I didn't want to dedicate myself to church activities, prayer, working out starting again today, oh and that little thing I do every day from 7:45-3:45 called WORK...then, sure. I could read every book I've ever dreamed of. Alas, I cannot do this and it seriously stresses me out.

Not only are there too many good ones out there, there is also the dilemma of which type of book to read. You know, there are so many good fiction books out there and I have so many favorite authors. My favorite, Adriana Trigiani, just came out with a new one this last week but I'm in the middle of the Twilight series (#3) as well as a Phillip Yancey book I've been wanting to read. Sheesh. See what I mean? It is exhausting!

I can hear some of you now. Yes, you know who you are; "Oh, get over it. It's just a book." Or, "Who cares?"

Fine, fine. I understand those sentiments I guess, but I am one who is not ashamed to admit it...I'm a HUGE book nerd and I love, love, love me a good book. Thankfully, I met a man who likes (not loves) to read too. When he finds something he's interested in (read: golf, horses, currently the Left Behind Series), he will completely immerse himself in the subject. I love that. I think it's sexy when a man likes to read. Is that crazy and weird? If so, then commit me.

This is also why I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND why some people read and reread certain "favorites." Who has the time? Move on!

So maybe there is more going on in my life than I thought; could I be venting about other parts of my life but disguising it as book stress?

Nah...I just want to spend some time with a good page turner and not feel guilty or overwhelmed with all the other possibilities.

Do you think there are meds out there for this problem?

  1. I can think of at least 5 books I have at home that I bought with every intention of reading, but just haven't got around to it yet. Blogging is a terrible distraction.

  3. I'm right there with you! My nerdiness really kicks in when I find a new author I like. If it's a series then I have to start at the beginning and read them all. Yeah I don't get rereading books either, when I have so many waiting to be read once. I'm almost to the end of the second Twilight book, but I have the next two sitting on my bookshelf waiting.

  4. Hey I am with ya sister!!! I just finished the #2 book in the series by Peretti (I gave you the #1 for Christmas called This Present Darkness)...it was AWESOME. I read 500 pages in one week! Total page turner and I loved it! I want to read the Twilight series but am seriously worried it will have me so wrapped up I won't be able to do anything else.

  5. I am the same way! I love reading and get so excited starting a new book. I read the Twilight series while I was in the hospital. I have several books right now that I can't wait to read, but don't have the time or energy to keep a book open these days. I am one of those people who enjoys rereading books. I like the second read through because I will find things that I missed the first time, or a story makes more sense sometimes when you know where it is going. Anyway, it can be fun, you should try it sometime!

So, so, so good to hear from you again! I have been missing your posts!

  8. I wish I had time to read as much as I would like too. I was in Target on Friday and wanted so bad to pick up 4 books to read, but stopped myself because I know I wouldn't have time to read them. One day I will!

  9. I am right there with you. I have probably 5 books on my nightstand that I haven't had time to read. By the time I get through reading my Bible for the day and finish with all the required reading for school it is hard to fit in anything else. Plus I am bad to start a book at night and read it all night long which makes for a bad day next morning. Right now I am reading Same Kind of Differen As Me and I have to make myself put it down and go to bed.If you haven't read it, you should.

  10. Having a new baby has interrupted all the reading I had been doing waiting for her to arrive, so blogging has taken over. It is like reading mini-books. I should be cleaning-but what fun would that be. Have you read "Same Kind of Different as Me"? If not, it is a good one...add it to your list. Glad I found you on Laura's new blog. Take Care

  12. You KNOW I'm a book worm right there with you! We will ALWAYS have that in common!
I know there are "classics" that I haven't read and that I'd like to read, but those always seem to fall to the bottom of the list.

  13. I love to read, I have so many books on the night stand in line just waiting for me. The bad thing is that back in the 90's I started reading at night as a reward for finishing the day, so that I now associate reading with falling asleep. It takes me a really long time to finish a book. But I love it. I'm thinking I may start the Twilight series. But they will be four or five down the list. Unless I jump them up to the front of the line.

Hey, I'm joining in with the I've missed you crowd. So good to hear from you here.
