It's Prom Night!!!

Richard and I have never been to prom together...besides the fact we went to high school literally at opposite ends of the state, when he was a junior in high school, I was in 4th grade, so it wouldn't have happened even if we did grow up in the same town. So, this year, I was informed I would join the group of junior sponsors at school. Anyone who remembers high school, remembers being a junior and helping with prom. Well, who knew as a sponsor, how much work that would actually entail? We worked late Friday night and several days after school in the weeks preceding Saturday night, as well. The theme was "Island Paradise" and it turned out really well. Richard even earned himself a position as "honorary junior sponsor" because he built (and later fixed...not because of anything he did) the palm tree water fountain feature. A sit-down dinner included Surf and Turf (shrimp and steak), and several yummy sides. We also had cheesecake and a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit to dip. All in all it was a good night, but I am just shocked at how much money these kids spend on dresses, tux rentals, nails, hair, etc...and then they stay for dinner and pictures and then leave. It's crazy! I know kids have been leaving prom for 30 years now, but I'm still surprised by how many actually do. Anyway, here are some pictures of Richard and me. I will try to get some others of the prom itself to share.

Side Note: You might notice my makeup (okay, maybe not but I was looking for a good segue into this information). Mid-March we traveled to Austin and I had my first experience with Sephora...LOVED IT! My main goal was to find Bare Minerals, but I was totally enthralled with the whole store. So, Bare Minerals is awesome! I love it! My sister-in-law, good friend and some fellow bloggers had all recommended it and now I know why! I seriously feel like I have nothing on my face, and yet the makeup lasts all day. Another thing I love...on late nights, when I just don't feel like taking my makeup off, I can leave it on while I sleep. It is all-natural and the coverage is amazing! You would never think it, because the powder is so light and airy, but you brush it on and voila, you're makeup is done! Yay, finally something that isn't oily but has the coverage I want! Thanks to all who suggested it with enthusiasm...I must agree and pass on the recommendation!

  1. Awwww! You guys are too cute! Did you know that in the almost nine years that Curtis and I have been together, we have only danced ONCE? Ring dance. Crazy, I know!

And your make up does look amazing. :-)

  3. I have to agree...you look awesome! Richard too...I can't leave him out. :-) My mom, who was a teacher at my high school, convinced my date and me to stay for the entire prom, and I have to say that I totally enjoyed it. Those of us who stayed had the entire dance floor to ourselves, and we had the time of our lives. It was so worth it! Kids these days just don't know what real fun is all about. I am sure glad that you guys had a nice time! :-) stacie

Oh, by the way...I am the silly one that deleted the above comment. I got "I" and "me" mixed up and the English teacher in me had to fix it! :-) sorry!

  4. Looks like lots of fun, Charla. I sponsored the sophomore class at Bryan and had to assist with the dance they put on - so much work and it wasn't even prom! I can't even imagine how much work prom is for the sponsors!!! You guys look great, Bare Minerals and all.

  5. YAY for prom! You and Rich look FAB-U-LOUS! Why is that one picture sideways? And I can't click on them to make them big. I want to see your makeup up close! Your hair looks really pretty!
I loved being a prom/dance chaperone at BHS. It was always interesting to see the students in that sort of setting. I was the one out on the dance floor telling them to stop bumping and grinding! HA!

  7. That sounds like so much fun! I look forward to one day teaching high school, so Nolan and I can attend school functions together! I'll have to age a bit before that happens though! Glad y'all had fun! I think I'm going to look into the Bare Minerals make-up too! There aren't any near us, but I'm going to work on it! :-)
