Long Time, No Post

I have thought many times in the last few weeks about things I could post. I had several good ideas, but most of them were just too deep; they required way too much thought and contemplation and as a result I just never posted. There, that's my story and...well, you know the rest.

My last post was about going home. The trip was long. We were exhausted by the time we go there, flat on one side at 1:00 a.m. Friday morning, but it was all worth it. Saturday we got up early and headed out for our first dove hunt. I wish I had pics to share, but I didn't take ANY! Ugh, shame on me! It was overcast, so the birds wouldn't leave the field where they were feeding. Dad did drive up a few, but we decided to head to Pearsall later in the afternoon to see if we would have better luck. In the Panhandle, the dove season was not a very good one...in fact it was terrible. But in South Texas, there were birds everywhere!

Rich and I were able to have lunch with our good friends Aaron and Jill Saturday afternoon at Los Alamos. There is nothing like good, authentic South Texas Mexican food! YUMMMMMY! The rest of Saturday we spent napping and watching the Aggie game. Our afternoon hunt was GREAT!!!! We ended up with about 15 birds that we brought home and froze. We are looking forward to stuffing them with jalapenos, wrapping them in bacon and grilling them. Please wait while I wipe the drool from the corner of my mouth...

My mom was at an Art conference in Galveston and we didn't think we were going to get to see her, so Sunday morning Dad and Richard went hog hunting and I went to church with my grandmother. I love going home and going to church. I went to Sunday School, and spent time with people who have known me almost my entire life. It was so satisfying and helped to cure the homesickness I had been feeling.

After church, we decided to grab some lunch and head home for naps. Turns out my mom had gotten up EARLY and left Galveston so she was almost home when we got back from church. I actually got to spend a few hours visiting wit her and that is always cathartic, as it was this time.

We didn't get home until 1:00 a.m. Monday morning, and it took a couple of days to catch up on sleep, but the trip was exactly what I needed.

Stay tuned for one of those "deeper" posts to come...
