Goodbye to Oprah

I must say, this post makes my heart slightly heavy. I used to believe that Oprah was one of the most sincere, and giving people I'd ever "known." She is giving, in many ways. But nowadays, I find myself really questioning her motives. I do think she wants to help people, but something about the way she does it just rubs me the wrong way.

Here are the reasons Oprah has been officially removed from my DVR...

1.) Oprah constantly interrupts her guests and it makes me crazy. To me this say to a person, "yeah, yeah, yeah...whatever...now, listen to what I have to say because it's much more important than what you have to say."

2.) Her shows no longer lift me up. I find myself feeling more depressed and more down when I read stories about the devastation in Africa, New Orleans, Thailand, etc... By no means to I think their stories aren't important or shouldn't be shared. I just feel like Oprah's shows are just downers most of the time, and I definitely don't need that in my life.

3.) Oprah claims to be a believer and a Christian, but her actions and the way she lives her life are not in line with that claim. Once again, I must say I am in no way claiming perfection. I am as MUCH of a sinner as she. However, I feel like her celebrity status makes her position one of such importance when it comes to what she claims as truths. There are people that believe whatever comes out of her mouth because she is Oprah Winfrey. Basically, Oprah has become WAY TOO POLITICALLY CORRECT for me. Her life in the circles of the Hollywood liberal-media has rubbed off and now she is not willing to take a stand for things that go against her beliefs. It's "beautiful" that a "man" is pregnant. She has no intention of marrying Steadman (sp?), yet talks about him as if they are married and as if THAT IS THE SAME THING...living together and the holy sacrament of marriage, she sweet talks and sugar coats and agrees with her celebrity friends when they boast their new religions of the month, i.e. Madonna's Kabbalah, Tom Cruise's Scientology, and so on. I am certainly on the side of tolerance, but not tolerance at the sacrifice of my own voice and opinion.

4.) Lastly, I do not like how she toots her own horn when it comes to her charity work or how much money she has given to children, or her "personal contributions" to certain charitable groups. God instructs us to give without boasting and I'm sure she does give many things we don't know about. I just get a really bad feeling when the audience cheers her on as she talks about all the things she has given to people in need. Give, but don't tell us all about it when you get back.

So, I have decided that the occasional Oprah I might indulge in, or skim as I flip through channels when I get home. But she has officially been erased from the schedule.

  2. I totally agree with you...Oprah has changed. I guess the straw that broke the camels back was the he-she pregnancy we watched as we were working out...NOW COME ON...

  4. I've never been an Oprah fan. I've watched her show only a handful of times. I WILL say, though, that I saw her show on Friday. It was intended to bring attention to something I am very passionate about...the horrors of puppy mills in the US. I'm glad she used her power and "voice" to make people stop and think twice before buying a dog from a pet store.

  5. Corrie, I didn't get to watch that one. Honestly, I wasn't sure I could, but I DID think first of you when I saw the preview for it on t.v.

  6. I agree with you Lala...I haven't watched an episode since her "new truth" religion was advertised on one of her shows. I believe we all have to take a stand somewhere. Thanks for your boldness!!!

This is the feedback Oprah got and it's actually on her website...all very critical and much in support of the opinions shared!

I didn't read long enough to find a positive note!

  10. Girl, I completely agree and decided the same thing myself this week! I am so disgusted with her "New Earth" classes and the negative influence she is having on millions that are seeking spiritual wisdom and getting horrible lies from what she believes to be truth. Wow, that was a run on!! Anyway, I am no longer a fan and have decided that I can better spend my hour doing something else more productive.
