My Life Song

I'm always in search of scripture that speaks to the place I am in life at that moment. I suppose you could think of it as my "life song" somewhat like others' "life verses" that inspire them in some way. This song speaks to my heart in so many ways. I listen to it over and over again and every time get something else from it. God speaks to my soul in these lyrics, and I thought maybe one of my readers might find solace in it as I do. Read the words and think about what they mean to you. I promise you will be filled with wonder at God's grace and mercy and, if you are like me, will be moved to tears at his compassion for the downtrodden. Scripture promises the healing of our heart's sickness; Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit," and Psalm 147:3 reads, "He heals the brokenhearted and heals their wounds." There is promise in those words and in these.

"Bring the Rain" by: Mercy Me

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that I've gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You
Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It's never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times
So I pray

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

I am Yours regardless of
The dark clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain
You who made a way for me
By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what's a little rain
So I pray

Holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
(repeat)

  1. I've always felt that way about Casting Crowns' "Praise You In This Storm." When we (I) first moved here , was alone, didn't have a full-time job, and it was constantly raining, I would blast it on repeat while cleaning or running errands. Then, when I finally got a full-time job (and you know all the details) I would blast it on my way to work. Granted, the circumstances are on a different scale, but I know what you mean about hearing His voice in music and know He's speaking just to you.

Love you too, and I will see you this summer! I have not yet made travel plans, but I plan to...soon!

  4. It's absolutely amazing how the words of a song can make your outlook on situations so much better. Chris always asks me why I leave it on a praise channel in the car and at work. I just feel that those words circulating in my head all day, each time I get in the car, and at the store are so influential to the way my day goes. I'm glad you find peace in that song, I so love it too! Let's get together soon. Maybe lunch this week? Let me know if there's a day that would be good. Love ya!
