Just Say No

...to leftovers. Well, normally my mantra is exactly OPPOSITE of that! I think the main reason I LOVE leftovers is because I know when they are there, I don't have to think about dinner...yay! However, I must say I will give new credence to those little voices in the back of your head that say, "maybe that has been in there a little too long, Charla."

Every Thanksgiving, my mom makes sweet potato casserole and it is divine! NO marshmallows...add brown sugar, lots of butter, coconut, a little rum, and a bunch of other yummy things and my, my, my...heaven in a Pyrex! So, because we weren't going to be with my parents for Thanksgiving this year, I decided I would make it myself. It was sensational! But, because we had a small Thanksgiving with Rich's family, I had a lot leftover. I have been snacking on it for the last week (no complaints from me, though). So, Friday night was no exception. I had accidentally left the dish out, but it was covered and I thought nothing of it. So, I heated me a scoop and dug in! YUMMY!

5:00 a.m. Saturday...not so yummy. I wake up nauseous and it all goes downhill from there. I will spare you the gory details, but suffice it to say I have been miserable since then. Just when I think I'm okay, here it comes again! Ugh. I NEVER get sick...meaning throwing up sick. I mean, even those times when I feel SO bad I wish I could and I try to make myself, I just can't do it. I think I had forgotten what a MISERABLE feeling that is! Saturday night we were supposed to head to Altus with a group of friends for a birthday party/dinner/bowling...right up our alley! We love bowling. Negative. Not happening.

I have to throw this in...Richard told me (after I got sick), he walked by the casserole and grabbed a pecan off the top and when he tasted it he noticed it had a different flavor. Thanks for the warning, hon!

What's worse...I was supposed to play handbells in church this morning and I was really looking forward to it. I felt so bad about letting everyone down and putting people in a rough spot. So, last night Rich called our music minister and warned him I might not be there. After I woke up this morning (at 5:00 again), there was no way I was going anywhere!!! He called about 9:45 and assured me all was fine and I could be there the next two Sundays to play. That made me feel better, but I still felt guilty.

Richard, always the trooper, has taken fabulous care of me and I'm feeling better; if he wasn't such a good engineer, I would say his calling is nursing...seriously. Although I feel better, I can't stand the thought of eating anything. It's like I'm hungry, but when I think about something to eat, I get nauseous all over again. The only thing that sounds even slightly appealing is Jell-O or pudding. I might have to try one or both later.

I'm trying to find the happy spots in all of this and one of them is I have been able to snuggle with the pups all weekend. I had all this "stuff" planned, but when you're sick, you're sick. So, the snuggling with Maggie and Marlee has definitely been a perk. I've also spent some time on my laptop (yay for wireless Internet), searching for Christmas presents.

OH, and I'm clearing up lots of space on the DVR!

  2. Hidey Ho!
I know you HAVE to be feeling better by now...right? Eeek. Awww. :(

Ok, so I'm really excited to tell you that I am doing something - and the real real real reason I am SO looking forward to it is b/c a piece of your heart will be there with me even if you can't....

OK! I'm going with my dad (as a secondary date to my mom's cancellation) to the Majestic to see A Conversation with Dame Julie Andrews.

So I bittersweetly go to the event wishing so much that it was you in my place...but excited to share something so special to you.

I'll tell you All about it!
    :) Love you! Sal

  4. Ugh, I hate throwing up! It is the worst! Last Thanksgiving I got sick (Thanksgiving night) and let's just say I lost everything I ate...I hope you are feeling better! I'm with you on LOVING sweet potatoes, but preferring they stay in my stomach. :)

  5. Wow, when you are sick there is nothing like a DVR to keep you company. 50 years ago you would have had to stare at the roof for 3 days while sick.

    Hope you're feeling better.

  6. My poor friend! I'm glad Rich and the girls were there to take good care of you! Schnauzers are awfully good at keeping a sick person cozy, aren't they?
I hope you are as good as new now!!
