This weekend Richard and I hosted the 10th-grade girls Disciple Now group at our house! We had four girls plus a college leader from Hardin Simmons. Needless to say, we got less sleep than we are used to, but we had a great time. The girls are so sweet and I enjoyed seeing them outside of my classroom environment. The theme for the weekend was Christ First: My Heart Christ's Home. The girls were involved in some small group time, we ran a scavenger hunt using the Bible and scripture as clues, we played games at the gym (where I got creamed with a dodgeball right in the face...yes, I cried). We had a great discussion on Saturday night just the six of us (Richard spent most of the time in our bedroom sleeping and watching t.v. Don't get me wrong, he helped, too. But, during discussion I didn't blame him for excusing himself). There was even time for a little friendly pranking. I hope the girls found the weekend as much of a blessing as I did. I think I got out as much, if not more, out of it than even the students!
Sunday morning Richard and I left early for the D-Now pancake breakfast...all I can say are two words...yum and stuffed. AND, we experienced a first in our marriage...we taught Sunday school together because our teachers were out of town. I must say we both LOVED doing it and were honored to even have been asked. I am hoping they will ask again, as it was a growing experience for both of us, especially as a couple.
After Sunday school, we headed for church, which was led by the D-Now worship team and band. The band was absolutely outstanding! One of our high school kiddos joined the band for worship, playing guitar and his face just shined the whole time! I found myself thinking of a way to get a worship band together to play every Sunday. I think it would do wonders for the youth. Oh, we also voted in our brand-new youth minister and his family. That has been a long process and everyone was glad to have it come to an end. Tim is a great man and I'm excited for what he is bringing to the youth of FBC Childress. He and his wife, Marilyn have a precious 5 1/2 month old baby girl, Kaitlyn. Do I even have to tell you that she was passed around quite a bit this weekend?!
I'll close with some pictures from the last couple of days! I'm hoping Richard and I can be part of Disciple Now again next year.
The girls during their first small-group discussion time, Friday night. The one on the far right is the college leader.
The boys on Friday night, playing Star Wars in our front yard. They ended up being creamed with silly string by my girls...it was hilarious!

I am so glad that you had a great time. I heard from a lil' girl that stayed with you ....... that you and Richard is what she wants to base her FAITHFILLED and loving marriage on. She also said that it was awesome to see you outside of school. It sounds like you made a difference in (i know of atleast) one of those girls lifes. They are lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a great time. Danny and I were unable to help with the D-Now at our church this past November, but we hope to be a host home this year.
