And Here We Go...

I like this cartoon, but I have to say that most years I look forward to the beginning of the year.  I love high school kids and I start to miss them during the summer.  I also really crave the structure and schedule of the school year and I love getting to catch up with friends I don't get to see much during June and July.

A week ago today, I had my ninth first day as a teacher!  I really can't believe it's been that long, but I think I say that every year.  This year is going to be interesting as far as school is concerned.  First, I moved to a new position as junior English teacher, and I also teach the Senior Dual Credit English class.  At first I was really apprehensive about teaching the senior class, mainly because I really had no idea what I was doing.  So far, however, it's been pretty good and I see lots of potential to do some things with them I don't get to do with my other students.  They are actually taking the class through a local college, so I can choose any assignment to add to the other work they will already be doing to earn their college grade.  I've decided to read novels and complete dialectical journals, one of my favorite things about high school English.  I know, what a nerd! 

With this move came the fact I would have the same kids this year that I did last.  Although there might be a few drawbacks to this, for the most part, I'm really loving already knowing the kids and especially that they already know me, and already know what to expect. 

The move brought an unwelcome, as well.  I had to move to the other hallway, and although my classroom is much nicer than my previous one, much bigger, with lights I can turn halfway down, and ceiling fans and a digital thermostat (its the small stuff, right?), I would trade it all to be back with my friends in the other hall.  Now, it isn't that the people in this hall aren't great.  Don't get me wrong.  It's just that the bond I've formed with my besties in the old hall makes it so hard to go all day without being able to talk and joke with them.  But I'm managing, and the veterans of snob hall have welcomed me with open arms!  :)

 This year is also full of change curriculum-wise.  Our district has adopted CSCOPE, and although I'm really optimistic about using it, it has been challenging to say the least.  If any of you have any suggestions, tips, or hints you are willing to share, send them this way, by all means!
